Chandigarh on High Alert Ahead of Republic Day, Police Step Up Security Across City
25 January | Chandigarh | City Spectrum
Ahead of Republic Day celebrations, Chandigarh Police has rolled out an extensive security arrangement across the city, tightening surveillance at public places, shopping malls, markets, transport hubs, and along key parade and ceremonial routes.
The enhanced measures, implemented on the eve of Republic Day, are aimed at ensuring a safe and incident-free celebration as the city prepares for official events and increased public movement.
Heightened Vigil Across Public Spaces
Senior police officials confirmed that multiple layers of security have been deployed across sensitive and high-footfall areas. Police personnel, including rapid response teams and plainclothes officers, have been stationed at prominent locations such as malls, bus terminals, railway vicinity zones, and popular public spaces.
Vehicle checks have been intensified at city entry and exit points, with random inspections being carried out to monitor suspicious activity. CCTV surveillance and mobile patrol units have also been strengthened to maintain continuous monitoring throughout the day and night.
Focus on Parade Routes and Official Venues
Special attention is being given to Republic Day parade routes and government function venues. Barricading, frisking points, and controlled access zones have been established to regulate movement and prevent unauthorized entry.
Police teams are coordinating closely with traffic authorities to ensure smooth vehicular flow while maintaining strict security protocols.
Traffic Advisories Issued for Residents
Chandigarh Police has issued traffic advisories urging residents to plan travel in advance and avoid restricted routes during peak hours. Commuters have been advised to follow official traffic updates, use alternate routes where suggested, and allow extra travel time to avoid inconvenience.
Citizens attending public events have been requested to cooperate with security checks and adhere to instructions issued by police personnel on duty.
Appeal for Public Cooperation
Officials emphasized that public cooperation remains a crucial part of the security framework. Residents have been encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious objects, vehicles, or activities to the nearest police station or emergency helpline.
“With increased footfall and national celebrations underway, collective responsibility is essential to maintain peace and safety across the city,” a senior police official stated.
Ensuring a Safe Republic Day
The administration reiterated that the heightened security measures are preventive in nature and aimed at safeguarding citizens during the national celebrations. Normalcy is expected to resume gradually after the conclusion of Republic Day events.
