Central Agencies Step Up Republic Day Security Nationwide

Central security agencies have issued a nationwide high alert ahead of Republic Day, cautioning states and Union Territories about possible security threats involving fake identity passes, unauthorised drone activity and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) hidden in everyday objects. The advisory has been circulated to police forces, intelligence units and paramilitary agencies across the country.

According to intelligence inputs, hostile elements may attempt to exploit large public gatherings and ceremonial events by using forged access credentials, impersonation tactics and objects that blend easily into daily use. Security officials have specifically warned about IEDs concealed in items such as bags, lunch boxes, electronic accessories or household articles, which could be placed in crowded areas to avoid suspicion.

Authorities have also flagged the growing risk of drone-based threats, particularly near sensitive installations, parade routes, government buildings and border regions. Unauthorised drone sightings have emerged as a key concern in recent years, prompting the activation of anti-drone systems and aerial surveillance mechanisms in multiple cities.

In response to the alert, multi-layered security arrangements have been put in place nationwide. These include intensified patrolling, additional checkpoints, vehicle inspections and round-the-clock monitoring at high-footfall locations such as railway stations, airports, metro stations, markets and public viewing zones for Republic Day events.

A significant component of the security strategy involves the deployment of AI-enabled surveillance systems. Advanced CCTV networks, facial recognition tools and real-time analytics are being used to detect suspicious behaviour, monitor crowd movement and assist security personnel in quick decision-making. These measures are aimed at improving response time while ensuring smooth public movement.

Entry protocols for Republic Day celebrations have also been tightened. Strict verification of identity cards and entry passes is being enforced for spectators, staff and officials. Authorities have urged citizens to carry valid identification, follow security instructions and avoid carrying unnecessary items to event venues.

Security agencies have appealed to the public to remain alert and cooperative. Citizens are advised to immediately report any suspicious activity, unattended objects or unusual drone sightings to nearby police personnel or emergency helplines.

Officials have clarified that the alert is precautionary and part of routine security planning ahead of major national events. With close coordination between central and state agencies, authorities remain confident that Republic Day celebrations across the country will be conducted safely, peacefully and without disruption.
